Brunei Darussalam in Brief





Brunei once known is Puni by the Chinese explorers and traders in the 6th century. The founder of Brunei is Awang Alak Betatar which is also known as Sultan Muhammad Shah. He is the first Sultan of Brunei.


Brunei is located on the north west of the island of Borneo, in Southeast Asia and bordered by the Malaysian states of Sabah and Sarawak to the west respectively and Kalimantan (Indonesia) and situated 114°- 115° 30° East and the latitudes 4°- 5° 30’ North. 


Brunei is the oldest kingdom yet the youngest independent nations of the region and it is the 2nd smallest country in Southeast Asia which only has 5,675sq km land area with the population of 400.00. Bahasa Melayu is the official language, although English is widely spoken and understood.


Rainfall and humidity are high with the temperatures averaging 28 degrees Celsius throughout the year. Over half of Brunei is unspoiled rainforest, a large proportion of which is located in Temburong district. The main export of Brunei is oil and gas.


The country is divided into four district which are Brunei-Muara district, Kuala Belait, Tutong and Temburong. There are seven indigenous tribes in Brunei which are Melayu Brunei, Melayu  Tutong, Melayu Belait, Kedayan, Dusun, Murut and Bisayah. Brunei’s capital city is Bandar Seri Begawan.


It achieved its independence on 1st January 1984. The government is Islamic Absolute Monarchy. Brunei also called A KINGDOM OF UNEXPECTED TREASURE because of the uniqueness of Brunei. The Sultan's role is enshrined in the national ideology known as Melayu Islam Beraja (MIB), or Malay Muslim Monarchy. The full name of His Majesty is Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Muizzadin Waddaulah ibni Almarhum Sultan Haji Omar Ali Saifuddien Saadul Khairie Waddin and His Majesty is the 29th Sultan of Brunei.

The government of Brunei introduced a five year plans for the purpose of education, health, development and defense. As what we can see today Brunei is really a modern and clean country. Is no doubt about it.

BRUNEI- MUARA DISTRICT
SULTAN OMAR ALI SAIFUDDIEN MOSQUE


Sultan Omar Ali Saifuddien Mosque is located at the heart of the capital of Brunei Darussalam. This mosque is a symbol of the Islamic faith and was built in 1958. It is an impressive example of modern Islamic Architecture.

The mosque is always welcome visitors inside or outside. If non- muslim wants to get inside the mosque, first they have to leave their shoes outside the mosque before entering. Women are advised to cover their head as well as the dress.
The mosque can be visits every Sunday to Wednesday from 8am – 5.30pm. the mosque is closed to every non- Muslims especially during prayer times  and on Thursdays and Fridays.
                                                                                  













KAMPUNG AYER (WATER VILLAGE)


Kampung Ayer is located at Brunei River and actually it was an ancient village built on stilts above the Brunei river. It is the largest village in the world which also known as VENICE OF THE EAST. It has 42 villages and 28 mukims that can be found at Kampung Ayer. Visitors can go to Kampung Ayer by the well known transportation - water taxi and walk on planks walkways. 


Kampong Ayer is always welcomed to visitors and by only paying a few dollars, they already in one of the kampongs. Kampung Ayer is for everybody. The visits will not be completed and exciting if the visitors don’t view the Kampung Ayer.


TASEK LAMA RECREATION PARK


Tasek Lama is located near the Sultan Omar Ali Saifuddien College. Tasek Lama Recreation Park can offer the visitors relax by the site of the natural waterfall and enjoy the view of Bandar Seri Begawan on top of the hills. Visitors can also enjoy amenities such as reflexology site, rock climbing wall and others various type of games and playground as well as hiking.
It is opened for everybody. Free of charge. Excluding food and drinks which visitors have to buy by their own.

TUTONG DISTRICT
SUNGAI BASONG RECREATIONAL PARK


Sungai Basong Recreational Park is a five minutes drive from Tutong district and become one of the most popular picnic park in the district. The park includes a mini-lake, platforms, shelter huts and open activity areas.





SERI KENANGAN BEACH





Seri Kenangan beach is situated in Kuala Tutong. Literally, Pantai Seri Kenangan the unforgettable beach. It is created by a narrow spit of land that separates the Tutong River and the South China Sea.
It was in 1959 people from Seria in Kuala Belait, if they want to go to Brunei town, they have to travel by a ferry and stopover at Kampung Danau before they proceed to Kuala Tutong. And only after that they can reach Brunei Town.
Its beautiful beach offer visitors such an interesting, fascinating and unforgettable memories. Also available chalets, restaurants, huts, a playground and food stalls are also available. Visitors also can view the sunsets.

BELAIT DISTRICT
THE BILLIONTH BARREL MONUMENT


The Billionth Barrel Monument commemorates the production of the billionth barrel of oil by the oil Seria oil field. It is located close to the sea wall, the first well dug over seventy years ago. The monument can be approach through an arch entrance and a row of trees on either side.The arches serves to remind visitors that Brunei is an Islamic country and the floor is tiled in an Islamic pattern.
It is a short drive from the Seria Town centre. It can be visited at anytime, at any days with free of charge.

Sungai Liang Forest Recreational Park






To reach Sungai Liang Forest Recreational Park, turn left off the coastal highway at the main Sg.Liang junction – located about seventy kilometers from Bandar Seri Begawan. The park is 450 metres from the main Sungai Liang junction along the road to Labi.
The Sungai Liang Forest Recreational Park offers the visitors such as general recreational activities, including hiking. The main pond, with its shelter platforms and open areas in the central complex, should satisfy visitors
The Sungai Liang Forest Recreational Park can promise to the visitors that once they visits there, their heart will beat hard for its beauty and unforgettable sightseeing. The surrounding is full of noises coming from birds and monkeys.

WASAI WANG KADIR 



Visitors can reach Wasai Wong Kadir in forty five minutes. Once he visitors reach there, they have to park a few miles from Wasai Wong Kadir. In order to reach the place, the visitors have to walk for ten to twenty minutes.
Once the visitors reach there, they can see the waterfall and a lake. The water is clean when it is not raining. Visitors can swim as much as they like because the water is cool and fresh.
Visitors must have edequate sun protection and enough water before hiking to this picnic spot, this place is also free of charge for the visitors.


TEMBURONG DISTRICT
KUALA BELALONG MINI PARK


Kuala Belalong Mini Park opened by His Majesty on 22nd July 1993 when His Majesty visited the district on His 47th birthday. Kuala Belalong Mini Parks garden and incorporate a numbers of attractions echoing the renowned Kuala Belalong Field studies centre.
The park is located about a kilometer from the heart of the district’s main town, Bangar. The park is an excellent alternative for those unable to visits the more remotely located Kuala Belalong Field Studies Centre.

BUKIT PATOI


Bukit Patoi Recreation Park is located within the Peradayan Forest Reserve, the Bukit Patoi Recreation Park is about 15km from Bangar town in the direction of Labu. With its unusual cave and rock formations, Peradayan Forest Recreation Parks 1,070 ha territory is also home to a variety of readily wild life such as Borneo’s native kijang.
It is possible to reach the top of Bukit Patoi, which is 310miles above sea level, and as less as 45minutes. It is the highest hills in Brunei. It is cooled by a pleasant breeze. It is a view deck from which to enjoy the panoramic views of the jungle, sea and villages and fields of neighboring Sarawak.



ULU TEMBURONG NATIONAL PARK




Ulu Temburong National Park occupies approximately 50,000ha of the Batu Apoi Forest Reserve. Established forest trails through the park include 7km of wooden walkways which protect ground vegetation and health prevent erosion.
In addition a series of tree houses some twenty meters above the ground, in linked by hanging bridges, provides excellent observation point. It is located at the confluence of the Temburong and Belalong Rivers.
We can reach the park by using temuai or long boat. The visitor will accommodate within the park consist of guest houses and three well- equipped camp site.

The river cruise company takes you to the water village or through the mangrove in search of proboscis monkey, kingfishers, otters, fireflies and more wildlife on the pontoon boats. JERUDONG PARK















Jerudong Park is an amusement park in Brunei. It is the largest and most expensive amusement park in South East Asia, built and funded by the Brunei Government for $1 billion. Free entry to the general public. Guests have to buy ticket cards to be able to use the rides and attractions. These tickets come in $8 and $10 price range.

To getting around Brunei these are the transportation that available in Brunei:


Car Hire
Self Drive cars are available for hire from major hotels and the airport.

Buses
There are six routes servicing the Bandar Seri Begawan. They usually operates from 6.30am - 6.00pm. Buses fares starts from B$1.00. 


These are buses that heading to other towns in Brunei like Tutong, Kuala Belait and Seria.



Taxis

Water Taxi


This is the main transportation for the passenger to cross the Kampung Ayer. Fares negotiable but usually standard cost is B$1.00.






This are regular boats services to Temburong which usually operates between 7.45am to 4.00pm daily and a round trip fare costs B$15.00.




TOURIST INFORMATION
Brunei can be reach either by air, sea, or land. Some of countries are required for visas.

Currency: The Brunei currency is Brunei Dollar (BND). Dollar notes are available in $1, $5, $10, $50, $100, $500 and $1,000 denomination while coins are 1, 5, 10, 20 and 50 cent denomination. 

Clothing: Light clothing is advisable as the climate is generally warm and humid. Women are asked to dress modestly in keeping with local custom.

Telephones: International call can be made from hotel rooms through the operator.
